Other Happenings

We signed up Micah for T-Ball (thanks to Popie & Grandma!). Practice starts this Thursday every week with games every Saturday through the end of March. Glen and I have been taking him to the park when we can to get warmed up. He's doing pretty good, takes after his dad. Grandma shared a story with me about when Glen was young and when he would show up at his baseball games, the parents/fans would cheer because they knew they would have a better chance of winning when he was playing. And guess what? Glen will be the head coach, he bought a clipboard and everything (lol). This should be fun!

Introducing the latest member of our little family, yay! Arriving on Thursday, January 5th at 7:19pm. Weighing 7lbs., 13 oz. and 20 in. long. Born at Paradise Valley hospital in Arizona. To those interested in the full birth story, read further below. If not, then just enjoy the pics of our sweet, precious gift from God.

Caleb's Birth Story

His estimated due date was January 12th but when I went in for my doctor appt. on the 2nd, I was already 2cm dialated. Although my water had not broken yet, the doctor shared that I was "ready" and suggested that we could come in sometime that week to induce the labor if we wanted. Went home, talked it over with Glen and after praying, we decided to set an appt. on the 5th to be induced. As silly as it sounds, it worked well with my parent's schedule too since they were going to be the ones watching Micah and Annabel while we were gone. We also knew from experience with Micah that if I waited too long, he would gain more weight, which could have made the labor longer and more 'laborious'. Regardless, it was one of those decisions we had to make, and so we trusted God with the results.

So here we were driving at 7:30 in the morning on the 5th to the hospital...excited, yet nervous about the unknown. You would think after giving birth to two kids, I would be couragous and super chill. Glen asked, "are you ready"? I said, "for the pain that is ahead? No, I'm scared!" With that, he decided to take me to Dunkin Donuts for one last yummy breakfast before labor :).

After checking in at 8:30, the doc broke my water...relatively painless. Then NOTHING. For 4 hours. So the nurses, Margo and Lauren, decided to insert a gel on my cervix to see if that could help move things along. NOTHING for 3 hours. We hoped to not have to use any drugs, but by then I was ready for the petocin, so they gave me small doses at a time. By this time, it was 3:30pm. That's when the contractions started really kicking in. I had such a peace and was calm through all the contractions, even though the pain grew incredibly worse. The nurses kept sharing too how amazed they were that Caleb's heart rate was calm and consistent as well. With each contraction, I repeated verses to myself, tried to focus on the cross, and Glen would pray silently through each one. It's crazy how I would go into a zone and block everyone out (that's how bad the pain is). But I also had amazing friends and family praying for me, which seriously helped me get through. By 7:19pm I had this little guy in my arms--and he was oh so precious!!! The pain was gone-YES-scripture is true (John 16:21).

Overall, I was blown away by the whole experience. We serve an awesome God who has created women's bodies to do awesome things--can't forget this. Thankful for the wonderful doctor and nurses who cared for us and our little guy. Oh and by the way, we didn't mind being waited on the next few days with lots of good food too :).

Leaving Seaside, CA

In God's sovereign, perfect will, who never makes mistakes, and whose purposes are never thwarted distinctly had us reside in Seaside only from February to October. While I won't go into all the details (we leave with God), I can say that I am proud of my husband. He stood for truth and would not back down. He was burdened for a fellow brother and loved him as he has been taught. Although not always perfectly, he was humble and always prayerful. I know this...because I was with him day in and day out. I LOVE this man and give THANKS to God for him.

We've come to realize (and still learning) that trials are for our good and for God's purposes--we can thank Him. We can't see the full picture of what He is weaving, but we cling to Him in trust. We miss those that we grew to love dearly...but take joy in eternal friendship. We continue to pray and yet move forward in the Lord knowing that He is with us wherever we go. May He use this experience, as sinful and wretched as we are, to help us further His kingdom in more ways than we can ever ask or imagine. To Him be all glory!

Spent several months praying through if we should buy a curriculum or not for Micah. Well, we finally did and bought Answers in Genesis for Preschoolers (whole set under $100). Three main reasons: 1. He has insatiable love of learning (what child for the most part doesn't) 2. We wanted to add more purpose to his day, as far as educational 3. Helps us be more productive in our days

We spend usually a few minutes after meals or in between and it is VERY informal. Micah has really loved it! He is learning shapes, colors, numbers, tracing, ABC's, and more. Plus it includes bible activities (on top of Cubbies stuff he does each week). We know each child is unique and that there are a myriad of different views out there on when to start home schooling, but we haven't regretted it one day. There have been so many positives, especially when you can make it fun!

We also started a job chart on the fridge for helping more around the house too. He is a great helper. Micah's five main jobs: 1. Feed Daisy 2. Make bed 3. Clean up room 4. Set table 5. Wipe down bathroom

Highly recommend this as children get into the 3 year old age!

Autumn Approaching

September has approached us fast and is now almost gone! Last year we were enjoying the nice autumn colors in Seattle, now we enjoy seeing/hearing the beautiful ocean. We've had much going on, but in it all we are waiting on our great and gracious Savior whom gives us more than we deserve. We are thankful for our precious kidlets--the JOY they bring--and I (Shilo) am personally thankful for the sweet, humble hubby that I can share everyday with. Baby BOY on the way is kickin' and movin' more...a precious miracle indeed. Until next time, hope you enjoy the latest snapshots. Love always~

Look who mom found under the crib?Miss Annabel (aka Annabugs) Joy

Interests include: rolling everywhere and anywhere, serious cuddling, wiggling her hands and toes, chewing her Pooh book, spontaneous giggling at her brother's antics, anytime daddy comes near, and at times letting out an occasional girly piercing 'shriek'. She is our mellow girl, more than her brother was as a baby. Seems to be laid-back and content...so far anyway :). It's been fun to watch her personality grow. What we've loved about our new abode:

1. Bible-teaching church
2. Members hungry for Word of God

3. Living on church property (less gas!)

4. Lunches at home together

5. Sunshine!

Interests include: cars, trains, balloons, playing in dirt, singing, reading his Five Little Monkeys book over and over again, listening to his Jesus Storybook Bible over and over again, hugging his sister (sometimes too hard), giving Daisy dog treats, riding his tricycle, hopping on his POP, reading stories with mom on his bed, string cheese, ice cream (takes after his mom here), and being downright silly with laughter.

Learned: numbers (1-13 but skips #4), alphabet, basic shapes/colors, and some words.

Most recent question asked again and again: "When Annabel gets older she can do fill in the blank, right mommy?" :-)

Beginning to get chilly around here and it definitely seems like time flies by taking care of two little ones! Here's the latest updates:

Glen did his first three baptisms on the 5th! The man pictured above is Ryan. Glen has been meeting with him the last 7-8 months going through the Old & New Testaments. He was saved through reading his bible one night alone in his room, has a powerful testimony. It was such a joy and thrill to share in his baptism. The two other baptisms were with Ryan's grand-parents...good stuff.

What's Up?

That's the big question here in Thompson town. As I'm sure some of you can relate, especially you busy moms out there, having a second child--life gets pretty busy. I'm going to attempt to play a little catch up over the last five or so weeks. Here are a few of the highlights in no particular order: 1. Miss Annabel (aka Annabugs or Annabanana) is growing fast 2. Micah Man turns 2! 3. Glen officiates first wedding ceremony 4. Visits from family 5. Visits with old friends 6. Glen turns the BIG 3-6!

Annabel Joy's Birth Story

I can't believe it has been one week tomorrow that our little Annabel came into the world. Before the busyness of life catches up with me, thought I would share from my journal (for those interested in reading!) her birth story that the LORD has been gracious to give.

On Saturday, June 5th, I joined Glen in our yard to help clean up by pulling weeds (while Micah pretended to mow the lawn and immersed himself in the discovery of looking at bugs). Later on in the restroom, I noticed there was a small leakage of fluid down below. I wondered if it was possible that my water broke, but decided to wait and monitor it since I didn't feel any pain or contractions (plus I thought it might be sweat--sorry if too graphic here?!). Late Sunday night, June 6th, during our bible study, I then noticed it again so through the advice of our friend Jana (doctor's wife), she directed us to call the hospital. The hospital then had us come in to test the fluid and sure enough my water had broken. PRAISE God for answered prayer since I was feeling "ready" by this point to have Annabel.

So here we were at 12:30am, June 7th, checking into Overlake Hospital where they began to hook me up to an IV for small doses of petocin and fluids. I had only minor contractions by this point so Glen and I decided to catch some shut eye. By 9:00am that morning we had breakfast and basically hung out through early afternoon with continued minor contractions (happy face intact, no pain...yet). Glen then reminded me of the verse from John 16:21, "Whenever a woman is in labor she has pain, because her hour has come, but when she gives birth to (her) child, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy that (her) child has been born into the world", which brought comfort to me.

Around 2:00pm, the contractions then began getting stronger and closer together in which our midwife told me that I was now in active labor. At 10 minutes to 4:00pm, she checked my cervix and I was dialated to 4cm. I remember thinking, 'wow...these are getting painful fast' so I requested an epidural. As they were bringing in the anethesiologist cart in at 4:15pm, our midwife checked me again and within 20 minutes I was dialated to 10cm!!! I was suddenly put on my side pushing...feeling every ounce of pain imaginable, yet exhilerating and exhausting at the same time. With 4-5 strong pushes, she came into the world at 4:28pm. What an amazing, profound experience.

Thank you LORD for new life, for the honor of experiencing your sweet blessing. I pray You would help me to honor You even more so as her mommy by bringing her up (and Micah too) in the nuture and ways of You. Please save them dear God and help me to depend on You through every step. To the great giver of life, I love you. Amen.

Born on June 7th at 4:28pm, weighing in at 7lbs., 13oz. She is FULL of cuddles and we are loving every minute of it! Labor (active) was only 2 1/2 hours long which was much different than having our Micah Man. We are now nestled in at home and enjoying our little growing family. Thank you for all the prayers! Came across a favorite hymn the other night, "Jesus, I My Cross Have Taken". One particular line reads, "Man may trouble and distress me, 'twill but drive me to Thy breast; Life with trials hard may press me, heav'n will bring me sweeter rest. O 'tis not in grief to harm me, while Thy love is left to me; O 'twere not in joy to charm me, were that joy un-mixed with Thee." What a joy to know that whatever the Lord brings our way, the promise of heaven's sweet rest awaits us. May whatever we go through always drive us to Thy breast!

Mother's Day

Glen blind-folded and surprised me with dinner at BluWater Leschi for Mother's Day. It was so peaceful. I thank the Lord for this amazing man that I married almost 5 years ago. He insisted on making me feel special even after I told him over and over that I was fine staying at home. I continue to admire his love for the Lord, others, and genuine humility. What a precious gift I have in my hubby. I love you! And Micah, you make being a mommy the greatest joy in the world. Wow! May has crept up on us quickly, where did April go? Some April highlights: celebrated Resurrection Sunday, Glen preached on 4/11, took a mini-trip to Oregon, went to a home-school conference (to find out more about it), Micah got his new potty, and booster seat. AND we only have 5-6 more weeks till we meet our new baby girl! Hopefully we can get one more blog post in before she arrives :). Pretty exciting stuff heh! We had our 20-week ultrasound yesterday and it seems as if the good Lord sees it fit for us to have more estrogen in the house. WEE Thompson #2 will be a GIRL!!! Glen is trying to get used to the fact that there will be more ribbons and bows around the house and Daisy is excited she won't be the only baby girl anymore :).

We took Micah out for his first "pumpkin patch" excursion last week. It was quite enjoyable. He was enthralled more with the tractors, chickens, and roosters than the pumpkins of course but not shocked there :). FBC Fall Conference

Every October, our church (Faith Bible Church) puts on a weekend Fall Conference at a place called Warm Beach, which is about a hour & 1/2 north of us. This year we were thrilled to have our pastor from back home who married us, Jim Pile, come speak!! He gave some wonderful and convicting talks on pride, humility, communication, and conflict resolution. We were also blessed to have two men from Japan stay with us for 4 days prior to and after the conference. Here's a small glimpse:

By the Lord's grace we have moved into to our new humble abode in Renton, WA (a mile south of where we last rented). It's actually not a "new" house, it was built in the 1940's with some re-modeling over the years. So we've been busy adding some Thompson touch-ups of our own with more minor projects in the works. Thankfully projects are getting less frequent! Overall we're enjoying all there is to learn about being a homeowner. Hope these pics give you a good idea of what it looks like.

Our amazing, precious gift from the Lord, Micah William, celebrated his 1st birthday today (July 15th)!!! Hard to believe that it's been a whole year that has gone by. When we were talking about how much has happened this last year...graduating, moving to Seattle, new job...just to name a few, by far our sweetest blessing has been having Micah. He has brought so much joy to our lives, especially to mommy as she has adjusted to her new season of life. Little Town of Leavenworth

The whole fam, including our Daisy girl, packed up in the van yesterday morning and headed out to Leavenworth, about 2.5 hours northeast from Seattle. It's a Bavarian (German) community. We have heard so much about it since moving here so decided to get away for the night (found a great deal on www.priceline.com/). Highlights: Gorgeous views of the mountains/valleys, eating German sausage at Munchen House (twice mind you!), hiking around the area, hearing some blue grass music at a Farmer's Market, and walking around the city. I suppose the pics will be more enjoyable than me rambling on :).

Anniversary #4

We've hit the BIG 4 years and oh my how it has flown by. And we can testify through the ups and downs of matrimony, that it only gets sweeter and sweeter :). Seems as if through the trials, we even grow stronger together. Thank you LORD JESUS for saving our souls, bringing us together almost 5 years ago, and for the amazing gift of our marriage. May we bring You more glory together as ONE than separate. It's all from Him!

Hola Amigos!

Glen, Micah, and I came home from Mexico/Arizona late Tuesday morning and had such a refreshing time. We spent about 3-4 days with my parents and 4 days in Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point). My mom and step-dad have owned their condo for about 9 years now and we are amazed at how generous they are with it. They truly believe that it is the 'Lord's place' so they continue to let family and friends stay there, which is a wonderful blessing. In fact, one of my dear girlfriends, Emily, and her new hubby are going to stay there at the end of this month for a late honeymoon.

Highlights: 1. Spending time alone for a few days 2. Praying specifically each night for either our marriage, Micah, home, and ministry in WA 3. Micah's sweet time with his grand-parents (he didn't even miss us!) 4. Seeing the beauty of God's creation while in Mexico 5. Meeting my two brother's new fiances 6. Seeing my mom's new workplace at Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Mexico here we come...

My (Shilo's) parents own a condo down in Puerto Penasco, Mexico which is about 3 hours south of the Arizona border. I haven't been there in four years so I am super excited to show Glen for the first time! Plus the grand-parents want to watch our precious boy for 4-5 days while we're gone. The best of both worlds: a little time away together and Micah gets to know his grand-parents. We fly out tomorrow evening to AZ. Hasta la vista for now!

This morning, I was honored to take part in our women's brunch at our church. I moderated a panel of three women: Betty, Lois (senior pastor's wife), and Laurie asking various questions around the text of Titus 2:3-5. The role of women in the church is such a controversial issue, especially in today's modern society. We had a great turnout with about 60 women and were greatly encouraged through His Word. I believe that God has made clear what our role as women are and am passionate...and thankful to be a part of our women's ministries. Here's some pics of the day:

This morning we headed out on our 1st ferry ride in Washington! Glen planned for our Valentine's Day to be spent at Bainbridge Island which took us about 30 minutes from the port of Seattle. Our New "Used" Wheels

As most of you know, Micah and I got into an accident about a week and a half ago. Well, long story short we are A-OKAY but unfortunately my car (Mazda Tribute) was totaled...sad times. However (!), the Lord blessed because we received a sufficient amount of monies back from our insurance company and were able to buy the car below. It is a 2005 black Nissan Quest with 58,000 miles on it. It's extra roomy, good gas mileage, and has a little modern kick to it. Plus an added bonus, we get to pay it off in only 3 years. Our other loan was 4 years, so hooray! Don't you think there is potential for more family members? :)

Usually I spend my Mondays catching up on things around the house (i.e. laundry, etc.), however today was an exception. Glen called me on the way to work and told me how beautiful the drive was (views of Washington Lake on the way) so I decided after Micah's morning nap to go down to Coulon Park which is down the street from us. What a beautiful and peaceful day! We walked and walked along the docks and paths while I pointed out the trees, ducks, and seagulls. He loved looking up at all the trees and BLUE sky too. And to top it all off, for lunch I had White Clam Chowder at a small little place which was quite yummy. It was also a sweet time of reflection and prayer for me after he fell asleep. Ryan, her husband, graduated with Glen last year together. Her sister lives about 20 minutes from Glen & I so she came to visit for a few days. It was so fun to have them here. Jen has been a great encouragement and friend to me the last few years so I praise the Lord for her. One of my (Shilo's) best girlfriends, Emily Hollon (now Mrs. Otten) got married on January 2nd! Micah and I flew out to Colorado Springs, CO on the 1st and stayed for two nights. It was a beautiful wedding and I was so honored to be a part of it. Two cool praises, Micah traveled really well AND I was able to fit in my bridesmaid dress...barely. Gotta love that post-pregnancy weight :).

Hope everyone had a great Christmas & New Year's! It's been busy in the Thompson household so haven't been able to keep up on the blog-ster lately. First things first, Glen's parents, Bill & Barbara (B&B) came out to visit us during Christmas week. The highlights you ask? Well... 1. Celebrating Barbara's birthday on Christmas Eve 2. The other night, we headed to Garden D' Lights in Bellevue and had a fun time walking around while drinking hot chocolate and apple cider (we are such warm WINTER-ITE drinkers now!). Of course Micah enjoyed it all too...sleeping. We've been trying to view as much Christmas lights as we can around here. Love love Christmas!

It's been snowing here the last week and as I write, it is actually snowing really hard right now outside our front window. Looks SOOO beautimous and yet I know when we go out to drive in it soon we may not be saying that. Oh well, we are enjoying this new part of the Northwest :).

We got a Christmas tree! I know what your thinkin'...it's just a Christmas tree you guys... HOWEVER this our first official Thompson Christmas Tree. We had a Charlie Brown type of tree one year during seminary, so this tree was pretty exciting for us. We ended up buying it from a church that was raising monies for youth missions so thought that was pretty cool too. Plus it's Micah Man's 1st Christmas!!! Here are the pics from the day:

Our Micah Man had his 4 month checkup on November 15th and all went well except that he was a little underweight so we've been trying to moniter him more to make sure he's eating enough. He also had two shots...man those are killer for mom!

Daisy and I witnessed the Micah Man officially roll over from his back to his stomach this morning. Woohoo! This is an exciting event in the Thompson house, since we have only seen him roll from his stomach to his back. Nothin' like a little spit up at the end :).

Exploring Maniacs

We have loved being able to explore explore explore Washington! Last Friday, we made way for a place called Snoqualmie Falls. Big beautiful waterfall and autumn colors everywhere, very different than what I (Shilo) am used to since growing up in Arizona. Overall, a very relaxing day. However, we were bummed that Daisy wasn't allowed to come with us (NO DOGS ALLOWED) so...we ended up taking her to a dog park in Bellevue. Of course she loved it, such a friendly pup she is. We tried to take pictures of her there but they came out too blurry :/.

MINISTRY UPDATE: On another note, life seems to be picking up at the church. Today after the services and lunch we went out and bought a calendar for the house so we don't forget anything (yikes). Glen is continuing to learn the ins and outs of working with the various age groups and is trying to prepare for an upcoming Christmas children's musical. And I am getting geared up to start a young mom's bible study at the church every other week. Then on November 8th, I'll be speaking at the Fall Women's event which I'm getting excited about.

MOMMY UPDATE: Then there is Micah Man...the mild-mannered, easy-going and sweet boy. Is this only temporary? :)

He is beginning to talk more and more, doing the whole razzing thing with his lips and is full of interesting expressions. Somedays I still can't believe that I am a mom, what a precious calling it is. I am awed with God's goodness, although I wish I could say that I feel that way everyday. Sometimes I can see my sin come out, like my lack of patience for one. Thanks be to God that He doesn't leave me alone and is carrying me all the way as I care and love our little one.

Glen & I went to Faith Bible Church's Fall Retreat last weekend at a place called Warm Beach, which was about an hour and half north of us. We think it's pretty cool that the entire church takes the time each year to get away for a couple days to refresh, worship and be together. The speaker, Dr. John Treveen, spoke on grief and going through trials. Sweet reminders to us to hold to Christ as our HOPE even when life is difficult. While there, we were able to steal away for a few shots :). "Look Dad, Mom thinks I look more like her""Shaaah right Mom, wishful thinkin'!"

that Starbucks would get SO popular from here!! We took a little trip down to Pike's Place Market yesterday and had such a blast. We stopped at the very first Starbucks and wouldn't you know there was a gospel group singing right out in front (although you can't tell by the photo). Pretty amusing we thought. Anyways, we had to buy a drink of course so Glen got his usual coffee and I got a Pumpkin Latte (first taste of Fall...yummy!). The market is full of seafood places, jewelry, flower venues, etc. Glen even bought me flowers :). Micah seemed to enjoy himself as well, he's such a good boy for the most part. We are enjoying every minute of parenthood...maybe because he's not a toddler yet (lol).

Hello all! We started at our new church home last Sunday morning and it was a very special time for us. The two pastors and elders prayed over us, and then after the services the church held a welcome potluck with a cake for us and baby Micah. Our hearts are over-whelmed by the Lord's graciousness. Out and About Exploring

The other day Glen and I were able to finally get out and explore a little bit! We went to a place called Coulin Park by Lake Washington. It was really relaxing and quite beautimous...can't believe we live here :). It has been sunny everyday since we've been here, although we know the rains and overcastness will be approaching us soon. Boohoo!
